Web Page Hits
Web Page Hits
Web page hits refer to the number of files served to web site visitors by a specific web site server each time a web page is requested. These files include html files, jpgs, gifs, text files, etc.
For example, if a web page is comprised of itself (the html file), 8 jpg files, and an additional include or text file, a total of 10 hits is recorded when a user visits the page. If the page has no other elements used to build the page, only one hit will be recorded representing the html web page.
While this web site statistic provides an accurate tracking mechanism to track total number of files served by a site, it is not a very reliable statistic to determine web site traffic. A much better gauge of web site traffic is unique visitors and number of visits.
