When referring to web site design and web page layout, "the fold" is used to reference the area above the bottom border of the browser window when looking at a web site. The area above the fold is the area that should contain the most important information displayed on a web page. The actual location of the fold can vary depending on the screen resolution the user's monitor is set at. A good rule of thumb is to consider the fold, to be the area below the bottom border of a 800x600 resolution setting.
