Greater Rochester Urban Bounty (GRUB)

www.grubrochester.com

The Greater Rochester Urban Bounty (GRUB) (Rochester, NY) is a program of the NorthEast Neighborhood Alliance (NENA). GRUB provides an outlet where neighborhood residents, of all ages can learn about the effect of food production in our growing society and receive training on agricultural methods. The organization provides an outlet for the purchase of fresh, pesticide-free produce directly from the farmer, in the Northeast area of Rochester.

GRUB received a $1 million grant from the Kellogg Foundation in June of 2002. For GRUB, this grant was a business investment that would allow them to grow and re-invest their profits back into their farms, therefore becoming self-sufficient.

The team behind GRUB, partnered with Corporate Communications, Inc., an Interactive Agency, to generate a successful, dynamic web site. The resulting web site focuses on the following:

  • Telling the story of GRUB so that others can learn from the GRUB project
  • Establishing self-sufficiency for GRUB
  • Increasing sales of fruit and vegetable products to local restaurants
  • Building institutional sales to schools and hospitals
  • Building trading relationships with regional food producers
  • Increasing revenues for food producers participating in the regional food-trading network

During the web development phase of the project, some unique features such as FAQ's, a news center, and a resources section were incorporated into the site. These powerful web site features are easily updated by members of the organization, even those with no web development experience. This is done by using web based administration panels which empower individuals responsible for the web site to make updates using a standard web browser.

GRUB is continuing to build their strong relationship with the interactive agency. Currently, an online e-business solution, is in the planning stages which will extend the selling ability of these urban farmers to the internet.

Corporate Communications, is proud of the solid relationship we have built with GRUB and look forward to launching this new e-commerce initiative.
